Key activities
- Lead finance activities of sector
- Drive both profit improvement and cash generation initiatives throughout sector
- To be a member of sector Exec team setting strategy and governance
- Ensuring the sector is consistent with Divisional and UKBU strategy and agenda, ensuring that both Divisional and UKBU Finance requirements are met.
- Contribute to delivery of Divisional & BU wide financial objectives, and Group objectives as required.
- Provide support to Divisional FD and their team as required.
- Ensure robust balance sheet and cash control
- Manage team to ensure timely and accurate financial accounting, financial planning and analysis, and the delivery of special projects.
- Monitor business performance and provide accurate and timely reporting to Sector MD and Divisional FD & CEO
- Plan for the future via in year rolling forecasts and budgeting and MTP process
- Liaise with the central finance to develop and communicate Finance strategy and company procedures and systems.
- Ensure a robust environment to meet control, reporting, regulatory and audit requirements.
- Ensure that the team is appropriately resourced, informed, motivated and trained to meet business objectives
- Assist with identifying gaps in Divisional / UKBU financial policies and on filling them in a timely manner.
- Assist as required with divisional acquisition processes
- Drive continuous business improvement on all areas in the sector to ensure best practice is achieved and shared across the division
- Drive forward understanding of key contract / OU / sector cost & income metrics to help better understand and drive business delivery models throughout sector
- Ensure sales estimation tools are fit for purpose and provide senior management relevant information to enable them to accurately evaluate new opportunities
- Evaluate and financially approve in line with DLA new business opportunities, ensuring key risks and opportunities are understood and are within Division & BU risk appetite and reported as required.
- Ensure key sector risks and opportunities are fully understood and communicated. Identify best ways of mitigating key risks and maximising key opportunities.
Skills, qualifications & experience
- Will be a qualified accountant, with experience of working at senior management / director level
- Has a solid understanding of the complexities of PFI contracts and experience of PFI contract negotiation
- Able to understand complex problems to find actionable, pragmatic solutions
- Clearly communicate ideas, plans and priorities to others
- Understands the marketplace, customers and current and potential competitors
- Understands the implications of decisions on the financial objectives and value of the group
