Bouygues UK has a fantastic opportunity available for a Design Manager to join our Preconstruction team. You would be based from either our Bristol or Cardiff office, with a hybrid working model. 

It’s an exciting time to be joining Bouygues – we currently have lots of exciting projects in the pipeline and are looking to grow our Preconstruction team! They are a very dedicated, results-driven and friendly team, so you would be joining a really great working environment. 

Job Purpose and Scope:

Contribute to the daily design management and management of the design consultants as well as assisting the wider preconstruction design team in working closely with the key design stakeholders for the project. 

Liaise between the Design Consultants and the project staff for design matters. When required and requested liaise with Site Manager / Preconstruction for the development of design packages and procurement strategies.

Accountabilities and keys tasks:

  • Understand client requirements/output specs
  • Assist in the review of and if required undertake a review of the Design, procurement and construction information to ensure it complies with Project documentation
  • Prepares the Design Management Plan (DMP)
  • Defines consultant valuation and authorizes appointed consultants payments
  • Defines designer`s objectives: programme, deliverables, ratios, coordination`s, etc.
  • Manage the flow of design information and the Document Control
  • Co-ordinate the input from BYUK Technical Department necessary to develop a robust design
  • Manage the Environmental Certification Process i.e. BREEAM / CFSH
  • Manage (preconstruction) or participate (construction) the Design Transfer from preconstruction to construction
  • Prepares design programme in line with procurement strategies (developed by the Commercial Manager / Construction Manager)
  • Organise, participate and record Design Review Meetings
  • Co-ordinate the Planning Submission
  • Co-ordinate early Building Control input into design principles

Essential & Desirable Criteria:

Essential:

  • Relevant Construction or Architecture qualification
  • Good knowledge of the design process, at commercial and construction design stages with a main contractor.
  • Understands the RIBA plan of work

Desirable:

  • Understands the planning process.
  • Ability to manage consultant`s scope and budget.
  • Have a working knowledge of single or 2 Stage Tendering.
  • Understanding of key design principles such as M&E design parameters, fire and acoustic requirements.
  • Understands the principles of Building Contract and Consultant Contracts
  • Good grasp of procurement routes
  • Good knowledge of contractual issues related to consultants
  • Good presentation skills
  • Management of meeting process
  • Capacity to manage and develop a team
  • Comprehensive negotiation skills
