Design Manager
Bouygues UK - Southwark
Bouygues UK are looking for a motivated and driven Design Manager with a proven ability in design management. Experience of working within a preconstruction environment on residential schemes is essential. Ideally you will have worked with design from RIBA Stage 2 through to construction and handover. Potentially an early background within architecture will be of value.
You should have good project management skills to implement our processes and ensure robust management of the design information.

- Experienced in residential schemes.
- Motivation and drive
- Proven ability in design management from early stages of design.
- A problem solving mindset.
- Have experience of working within a preconstruction team.
- Good project management (of the design) skills.
- Ability to adopt Bouygues UK robust design management processes.
- Excellent organisational skills and strong IT abilities.
- Commercial awareness.
- Experience of working for a Tier 1 design and build contractor.
You will understand the application of design management, BIM and document control processes to ensure the highest quality of design aligned with the programme. You will be expected to develop a deep understanding of all Bouygues processes from the outset.
Job Purpose and Scope:
Initially you would be engaged within our dedicated preconstruction team managing the design process from concept design on one of our development led schemes. Your responsibility would progress through the stages of design and either you will transfer it over to the delivery team or have the opportunity to work within the design management team to deliver the scheme. This will be related to the complexity of the scheme and the expertise of the chosen candidate.
You will possess an excellent understanding of the application of design management, BIM and document control processes to ensure the highest quality of design aligned with the programme. You will be expected to develop a deep understanding of all Bouygues design and information management processes from the outset.
Accountabilities and key tasks:
You will carry out the design management initially reporting through the Head of Design for our Development schemes and should you move to delivery phase through the Project Director or Design Management Lead. (with the Head of Design remaining as your functional manager).
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Management of the Lead Designer and design team.
- Design Review and appraisal (including identifying and mitigating design risks and exploring opportunities).
- Consultant appointment, scope of services development and management of the appointment implementation.
- Development and monitoring of the design programme.
- Information Management including liaison with the document controller.
- Third party submissions (e.g. Building Control, Planning / Development Control)
- Implementing and ensuring adherence to Bouygues UK design management process and Bouygues UK Internal Governance.
- Seeking and applying lessons learnt.
