Are you passionate about materials engineering and eager to contribute to one of the UK's major infrastructure projects? Sizewell C (SZC) is seeking a dedicated Assistant Materials Engineer to join our team and support the materials engineering and laboratory teams.

Job Purpose / Overview
The role focuses on supporting the materials engineering and laboratory teams for the marine and tunnels earthworks and MCA backfill packages. You will coordinate trials and technical deliverables, assist in ongoing testing and quality management activities, execute demonstration areas, and manage laboratory testing services.

Principal Accountabilities, Activities, and Decisions

- Sustainability: Support the delivery of sustainability activities.
- Technical Support: Provide specialist materials engineering input to the project team and support value engineering opportunities.
- Expert Support: Assist project delivery teams with technical support in materials engineering design, assurance, and management.
- Testing Services: Provide materials testing services during project delivery.
- Stakeholder Relationships: Develop and maintain relationships with materials engineering consultants and suppliers.
- Risk Management: Support materials risk management and identify best practices.
- Industry Expertise: Keep updated with the latest technologies and standards in materials engineering.
- Quality Assurance: Assist in audits and ensure all materials meet project specifications and standards.
- Issue Resolution: Resolve material technical issues efficiently.
- Mentorship: Mentor team members to deliver high performance and continuous improvement.
- Procurement Strategies: Develop procurement strategies for the reuse, purchase, and disposal of materials.

Financial Responsibilities  
- Track orders and testing costs to ensure project expenses are within the agreed budget.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential  


- Professional experience in Civil/Structural/Materials Engineering.
- Knowledge of framework procurement principles.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and present data clearly.
- Relevant experience in Civil/Structural/Materials Engineering.
- CSCS Card holder.
- Full UK driving license.

Desirable


- Knowledge of construction materials (Concrete, Grout, Earthworks, Aggregates, Asphalt).
- Working towards professional qualifications (FGS, MICE).
- Degree in Civil/Structural/Materials Engineering.
- Experience in a laboratory environment or civil engineering project.
- Desire for continuous improvement and development.
- Well organized and a quick learner.
